Mauritius is a volcanic island, situated in the Indian Ocean and is located about 800 Kilometres off the east coast of Madagascar. The legal system contains both the French Napoleonic Civil Code and the English legislation based on a common law legal system. The national currency is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR). The official language is English, while French is more widely used.
